3 Home Remedies For Dry Skin

No matter how beautiful your Tabelina jewelry is or how flawless your outfit may be, dry skin seems to get attention and take away from how great you feel. While not all dry skin issues can be seen, some cause flaking and redness which can be embarrassing and frustrating to deal with. If you're ready to soothe and heal dry skin for good so that you can get back to enjoying your summer, try these 3 all natural remedies for healthy looking skin all season long!

Steer Clear Of Chemicals

One of the biggest causes of dry skin goes unnoticed by most people. The chemicals we use every day can cause havoc on our delicate skin, so keeping clear can change everything. When it comes time for household cleaning, washing, scrubbing, and polishing, put on a pair of neoprene or vinyl cleaning gloves to keep the bad stuff off your skin!

Exfoliate & Hydrate

When dry skin kicks in it can be hard for your body to stop the process and get on top of the cycle. A gentle exfoliation with a dry brush, salt scrub, or sugar scrub can remove layers of dry skin so that your body can work to get healthier skin on the surface. A great part of an exfoliation is following up with an all natural moisturizer like coconut oil or shea butter.

Nourish

Your skin needs nourishment just like the other organs in your body. Making sure that your diet is rich in clean water, raw fruits, and organic veggies will make sure that your skin has access to all of the minerals and vitamins that help it feel and look amazing.

Pretty simple, right?

Remember that your skin is the largest organ you have and it's your first line of defense against all kinds of illness and infection - plus it's the first thing people see when they meet you! Take time for your skin and it will reward you abundantly!

5 DIY Uses For Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is by far one of my most favorite plants. I love the cactus and succulent look it carries, its fragrance, and the low-maintenance way in which it grows. This is a truly must-have plant in any home, and its beauty is rivaled only by its countless healing benefits. Today, I'd like to share just 5 of my favorite ways to use aloe vera as a home remedy. Enjoy!

Minor Burns

Grabbed a hot pan? Oil splatter? Match burned down too far? Aloe vera comes to the rescue! A little fresh aloe vera gel applied to mild burns can help bring on soothing relief and protection for your skin while the healing starts. While you should not use aloe on severe burns, it's a great remedy to have around for those common household accidents.

Bites & Stings

During this time of year many people complain about constant bug bites and the irritation they bring. A dab of aloe vera gel can stop itching, swelling, and irritation at the site of a big bite or sting while soothing and helping the skin to heal at the same time.

Cold Sores

It turns out that applying fresh aloe vera gel to cold sores can help sooth the heat and irritation they bring while also helping to cleanse and heal the area at the same time. Apply the gel generously throughout the day and be surprised at how fast you heal!

Stretch Marks

Applying aloe vera gel liberally every day can help deliver nutrients to the skin that may help shrink stretch marks naturally!

Removing Eye Makeup

A little aloe vera gel and some gentle massaging can help take off your eye makeup without the use of harsh, potentially dangerous chemical makeup removers.

If you don't have an aloe vera plant growing in your home, now is the perfect time to adopt one! Cut just what you need from the tips of the leaves using sharp scissors or a clean utility knife. Over the time the plant will self-propagate and make aloe vera babies you can transplant into other pots or areas of your garden!

Enjoy!

3 Simple Home Remedies For Poison Ivy And Poison Oak

One of the worst things that can happen when you're out enjoying the great weather is an accidental encounter with poison oak or poison ivy. These plants create an intense and deep itch that can ruin even the most amazing day, so knowing how to treat them quickly and easily can be a real summer saver.

Here are three of my top favorite home remedies for treating poison oak and poison ivy. Keep note of these handy tricks just in case you or your little ones find their way into trouble this season...

Banana Peels

The inner white part of a banana peel has minerals and other nutrients that can help soothe and remove inflammation from a poison oak or ivy attack. Just rub the inside of the peel gently on the affected area of your skin, taking care not to run the poison deeper into the skin or into a larger area of your skin. This should provide some much needed relief until you can use a more powerful lotion or cream.

Vinegar, Rubbing Alcohol, and Spirits

Getting the poisonous oils from the skin is the best way to stop the itch caused by poison oak and ivy. Alcohol based items and other high acidity liquids may just be the best way to do this. Dousing the area of the skin with vodka or vinegar can help, as can gently wiping the area with rubbing alcohol. Coffee is also acidic and may be a last resort option.

Potatoes and Oatmeal

Creating a paste from potatoes or oatmeal and a bit of water can help draw the itchy oils from the skin and give much needed relief. Try rinsing the area with alcohol first to help looses the oils and clean the area. The potato or oat paste can be left on until it begins to dry.

Amazing Uses For Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is one of the most popular and widely used oils these days - and there are hundreds of reasons why. This oil is light, nutritious, hydrating, and versatile - and having one jar on hand can give you access to tons of amazing benefits! Here are just a few of my favorite uses for coconut oil - try some for yourself!

Hair Love
A small amount of coconut oil worked through the hair can add a light, non-oily shine that lasts all day. It also nourishes and hydrates your hair from root to tip so that after your next wash your hair will look better than ever!

Skin Hydration
Turn to a small dab of coconut oil when you want deep, nourishing skin hydration. Take time to gently massage the oil in to your skin and it will leave you moisturized without an oily residue.

Cooking
Unlike other common kitchen oils, coconut oil doesn't go bad at high temperatures. This is a great oil to use for everything from making popcorn to seasoning a cast iron skillet.

DIY Lip Gloss
Apply coconut oil to your lips and feel the difference! The oil will moisturize, shine, and heal cracks in your lips all while making them look great!

Tea Sweetener
Add a teaspoon of coconut oil to your favorite medicinal herbal or green tea for added nutrition and a little gentle sweetener!

The next time you're at the market pick up a bottle of organic coconut oil and see just how amazing it is!

Home Remedies For Wrinkle Removal

Let's face it, beautiful skin can make all the difference in how we feel and look! There are countless expensive treatments on the market now days that help smooth wrinkles and remove the signs of aging - but there are some great home remedies as well! Today, I'd like to share a few simple things you can do to love your skin and help erase the years and improve how great you feel about your body's largest organ.

Nutrition

Antioxidants are the best way to love your skin from the inside out. Getting foods that are high in antioxidants helps your body fight off the signs of aging while also possibly preventing cancer. Foods that include antioxidants include pretty much all of the deeply colored fruits and veggies - so enjoy!

Moisturize

Keeping your skin hydrated by using all-natural moisturizers is a great way to cut down on the signs of aging and wrinkles. Choose a light lotion that contains natural oils and ingredients to give your skin the very best.

Stay Hydrated

Drinking enough water is essential to beautiful skin, and one of the best ways to get enough water and get some extra nutrition for your skin is through herbal tea. Many herbal teas like chamomile, calendula, lavender, rose hips, green tea, and oat straw have properties believed to do amazing things for the skin - and you get water at the same time!

Massage

Many bodywork experts say that gentle facial massages using a gentle cleanser or lotion can help increase blood flow to the skin in your face, remove toxins, and tone the look of the skin. You can perform a gentle massage by making small, gentle circles with your fingertips from your neck up to your forehead.

Easy Home Remedies For Spring Mosquitoes

There's nothing as irritating during Springtime outdoor events than being attacked by mosquitoes. These tiny buys bite, suck blood, and can even carry diseases, so it's important to steer clear of them when you're outside enjoying the changing weather. Many chemical-based products can be found on the market that are quite effective at keeping mosquitoes away from your body, but many experts believe that these chemicals simply are not good for us. As an alternative, there are many home remedies you can use to combat mosquitoes while honoring your health and the environment.

Here are just a few...

Wind

Mosquitoes are not strong fliers. If there's even a slight breeze they often land because they don't do well flying against the current. For this reason, a hand fan or even a powerful electric fan placed near your gathering can create just enough breeze to keep most all flying insects away.

The Sweet Scent Of Vanilla

Pure, all natural, real vanilla extract is a treat to our noses and a real offense to the mosquitoes. Try adding a few drops of pure vanilla extract to cotton balls that are placed around your gathering area. You can also add several drops to spray bottles filled with water to lightly cover chairs and awnings.

Dryer Sheets

The scent of dryer sheets is extremely concentrated and strong, and mosquitoes really hate it. You can tuck sheets into your pockets, under furniture cushions, or hung from awnings.

Plants

There are many plants that can help cut down on mosquito problems. These include Lemon Balm, Marigolds, and Catnip.

Here's to a pest-free Spring 2013!

When we have these things on hand, we're able to foster a deeper connection to nature while enjoying the many benefits that come from all natural plant healing techniques. Today, I'd like to share five of my favorite herbs and plants that make a great addition, living or dried, to any medicine cabinet! As with all things health related, don't use herbs or any type of self-healing method until you speak with your trusted medical professional first.

Aloe Vera

I love aloe! This amazing live plant is easy to care for (it's related to the cactus) and is a beautiful plant to have on a windowsill. When dry skin, skin irritation, blemished, or even sunburns strike, you can break of a small piece of a leaf and rub the soothing gel over the skin for instant relief!

Chamomile

Chamomile dried herb makes a delicious hot or chilled herbal tea, and it helps in a variety of ways. Chamomile is calming to the nerves, relaxing to the mind and emotions, soothing to the digestive system, and tonifying for the whole body. This is a great all-purpose healing herbal tea to have on hand all year round!

Peppermint

As a fresh or dried leaf, peppermint is the go-to herbal tea for any stomach complaints. Try it hot or cold depending on what sounds best at the time, and let this sweet and tasty tea help relieve cramping, gas, and upset stomach.
Echinacea

Echinacea is a powerful immune booster that can shorten illness and fight of bugs. It can be used in capsule, tincture, or tea form and is a very gentle and effective solution for many issues from the common cold to infections.
Garlic

Raw, cooked, or pulled fresh from the garden, garlic has a huge list of positive benefits that include antiviral, antibiotic, and antifungal properties. Keeping this root in your diet can help fight off a whole host of issues - and the flavor is great!
