Home Remedies For Summer Bug Repellent

Summer is in full swing and the bugs are out in full force! There are many options for getting the bugs to 'bug off', but many of them contain harmful chemicals or scents that simply ruin the fun summer mood. Today, I'd like to share some all natural home remedies for bug repellent that you can use anytime, anywhere to keep the bugs away!

White Vinegar

One of the oldest and most beloved tricks in the book is to dab or spritz a small amount of white vinegar on the skin. Bugs hate the smell and taste, and humans love the fact that the smell vanishes in a matter of minutes. White vinegar is extremely safe, and since it's so cheap, you can always have some on hand!

Basil Herbal Tea

It turns out that bugs hate basil as much as we love it! Brew a strong herbal tea with basil then dab or spritz wherever you need it most. This will keep for several days if refrigerated.

Lemon Balm Plants

Lemon Balm (also called Melissa in some areas) is a beautiful, lush herb that has a light lemony fragrance and a hardy appearance. The sweet fragrance and vibrant colors are a wonderful addition to the summer as long as you aren't a bug! It turns out that just having some Lemon Balm plants around can cut back on how many bugs want to hang out at your picnic. You can also rub the leaves on your skin or create a tea similar to the basil tea mentioned above and use it as a refreshing bug-repelling spray.

Stay bug and bit free this summer... naturally!
